Category: Reasons to Pray
Published Date Written by David Rowley

I have been an intercessor since 1988 and my heart is for God to bring revival to this nation.

I never had any intention of praying for the government because I thought that we belong to the Kingdom of Heaven, not the kingdoms of the earth, but in January 2009 I began to pray for the March of Repentance.

I decided to set aside an hour every day to pray in tongues for it, but as I began to pray, God just took me into groaning in the Spirit. Paul wrote "We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies" in Romans 8:22-23.

God called me to greater commitment to praying for the March and for the government. God then began to show me that the sin wasn't superficial, it was more like it had been "ploughed in" and was deeply affecting the whole land. I was greatly disturbed by criticism of the Government and felt that they needed prayer not condemnation because the government is spiritually blind and you can’t blame a blind man for not seeing!

God longs for intercessors who will make a serious commitment to praying for His purposes. Praying in tongues is great when we have run out of words, but God gets us to groan when even tongues isn't deep enough to express His prayers through us.

We have to join with the Holy Spirit and pray that His will is done on earth as it is in heaven. Sometimes we don't understand what the Holy Spirit is praying, but we join with Him in accomplishing His purposes by praying as He calls us. We need the committed people that God is calling to this task to join us.
